How to Apply and Remove Eye Black (From the Mom and Son Who Made Canada's First)

How do you put eye black on? Does it actually help with glare? And how do you get it off without scrubbing?

Let's talk about it.

Why We Made Our Own Eye Black

GamePlay™ was never part of the business plan.

My son Evan wanted to wear eye black for baseball. But I was not comfortable with the ingredients in the products we were finding. MisMacK already had the manufacturing relationships and experience creating cosmetics, so I asked him one question:

"Do you want to create a clean eye black?"

Evan said yes.

He was part of every step. The name. The logo. The packaging. The formulation. How it needed to perform. And eventually, standing beside me to pitch GamePlay™ Eye Black on Dragons' Den.

Today, GamePlay™ is the first eye black ever made in Canada. It has been worn by athletes across the CFL, and it was even loved by Banana Ball players.

What Eye Black Does

GamePlay™ Eye Black helps reduce glare when it is applied beneath the eyes.

But eye black is so much more than glare. It's game face. It's team pride. It's the moment you look in the mirror and think, "Let's go."

That's why we created Grit Sticks™ too. Choose classic black GamePlay™ Eye Black, or show your team pride with Grit Sticks™ in White, Blue, Green, Red, Pink and Orange Pop.

How to Apply Eye Black

  1. Twist the stick up only slightly. Pro tip: this helps protect the stick.
  2. Apply GamePlay™ Eye Black beneath the eyes before gameplay.
  3. Add Grit Sticks™ wherever you want to show team colour or create a bold cosmetic look.
  4. Reapply as needed. GamePlay™ is sweat and water resistant and made for heat, sweat, movement and real life. Long game? Tournament weekend? Toss a stick in your bag.

Game Day Looks for Fans

Eye black isn't just for the field.

  • Team colour under the eyes with Grit Sticks™
  • Bold face colour for the stands, or face and body accents
  • Add sparkle. GamePlay™ makes a tacky base for GlitterEnvi™ Biodegradable Glitter. Swipe on the stick, then press the glitter on top.

Our Fan Kits™ were built for exactly this. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Fan Kit™ features the same GamePlay™ Eye Black worn by Bombers players, plus Bomber Blue and Bomber White Grit Sticks™. The Silverbacks Fan Kit™, created right here in Salmon Arm, is $25 and comes with a Purple GamePlay™ Grit Stick™, Unicorn GlitterEnvi™, a Mini Nourishing Cleansing Balm and a co-branded Silverbacks pouch you can clip onto just about anything.

The Silverbacks have one. The Bombers have one. More Fan Kits™ to come.

Eye Black Is Also an Eyeshadow Base

This is where it gets fun. Because this is MisMacK, she does more than one thing.

GamePlay™ Eye Black is one of our favourite eyeshadow bases when you want serious staying power through crease, heat and sweat. Apply it on the lid, then layer ART Shadows over top for bold colour that holds.

It's also a go-to for theatre and creative cream makeup. If it works under stadium lights, it works under stage lights. Read about a local school production of The Lion King in Clean Theatre Makeup for Schools.

How to Remove Eye Black (Without Scrubbing)

This is the part nobody talks about.

  1. Massage Nourishing Cleansing Balm right over the eye black.
  2. Let it melt everything away.
  3. Wipe off with a warm, damp cloth.

That's it. No harsh scrubbing. Choose the Full Size Jar for home or the Travel Stick for on the go. Same formula. Two ways to use it.

Everything in One Case

The Grit Kit™ is your get-ready station in the palm of your hand: GamePlay™ Eye Black, a Nourishing Cleansing Balm Stick and five Grit Kit sized GlitterEnvi™ shades in Blue, Pink, Red, Gold and Green, all in one hard on-the-go case.

Swipe. Press. Play. Clean up.

Every Stick Gives Back

$1 from every GamePlay™ Eye Black and Grit Stick™ sold supports KidSport Canada. $5 from every Grit Kit™ goes there too. That money helps remove financial barriers so more kids get the chance to play.
