Making The Switch To Biodegradable Glitter

Making The Switch To Biodegradable Glitter

Don’t we all love a glam, glittery makeup look? Heck yes! But what we don’t love, is filling our environment with plastic. Right now you’re probably thinking, “UM GIRL what the heck are you talking about!?” It's strange and unfortunate, but the two things are connected.

Mismack clean biodegradable glitter

Every year, up to 35,000 tonnes of microplastic (pieces smaller than 5mm) from cosmetics go down the drain and end up in our beautiful oceans. Now we haven’t exactly spoken with the dolphins yet, but we hear that they’re pretty upset about these plastic particles ending up in the water. While it's hurting the animals, it's also hurting us. Research shows that microplastic is now contaminating our drinking water. Horrifying! Traditional plastic glitter is indeed litter!

In July 2018, Canada officially banned microbeads in rinse-off cosmetics. You know, those little plastic beads you used to see in your face wash? Those are microbeads! Other plastic glitter you’ll find in makeup still falls under the microbead category, but it hasn’t been banned as makeup isn’t considered a “rinse-off” cosmetic. Thankfully, there are lots of scientists working to ban plastic glitter entirely.

OUR BIODEGRADABLE GLITTER SOLUTION

But obvi, we still want to have our glam glitter makeup moment! So here’s the solution: MisMack GlitterEnvi.

We’re pretty excited that Mismack is the first in Canada to offer eco-friendly, biodegradable glitter. Meaning after you wash the glitter off of your skin, it will naturally break down in the environment. No plastic pollution here!

Thankfully, there are other people on the same wave as us. Certain music festivals have banned traditional cosmetic glitter to help save the environment. If you’re a festival going babe, we have seven different shades of GlitterEnvi to have you looking snatched and sparkly all festival long.

THE CLEAN COSMETICS RUMOUR

But of course, you might have been told that ethical cosmetics don’t perform as well as traditional counterparts. Not true! We're proud to be creating clean, pro designed, Canada made cruelty-free products that absolutely slay the makeup game. We hate to brag, but have you seen this video? Our glitter is easy to apply (MisMack GAIA Gloss is a major key), lasts all day and shines like nothing else.

So babes, all we can say is that there is just no excuse for polluting the environment in the pursuit of beauty. Only biodegradable glitter from here on out, please and thanks!
