Today, I’m excited to share the story behind our multi-use ART Shadows, and how my son, Evan, played a pivotal role in their success and our newest venture, GamePlay Eye Black.
A Colour Named by a Child, Loved by All
It all started in the cozy basement of our home in Canoe, BC, where the heart of MisMacK beats. When Evan was just six years old, he named one of our ART Shadows "Magic Violet." Little did we know, this colour would go on to win our first Global Clean Beauty Award for Best Eye Colour. When we won, Evan’s first question was, “Well, which colour won?” The pride in his eyes when I told him it was Magic Violet—his creation—was unforgettable.
Beating the Giants from a Basement
Our win wasn't just any win. We were up against big names like Pur Cosmetics, who operate out of glamorous big-city offices. There we were, in our small town, outperforming them right from my basement. It was a moment that truly defined the spirit of MisMacK—proving that passion and innovation could outshine sheer size and scale.
Evan’s Journey from Naming Colours to Shaping Products
Fast forward to today, and Evan has grown not just in height but in his role within MisMacK. He was the brains behind our GamePlay Eye Black, helping with everything from the product name to the packaging and branding. Evan was right there with me during our Dragons’ Den audition in Kelowna, acting as my cheerleader and biggest supporter. After our pitch, which happened just a day after Mother's Day, he reassured me, saying, “We did so good, Mom.”
Awaiting the Spotlight
Now, as we eagerly await our Dragon's Den episode debut, we’re also preparing to launch the brand new GamePlay Grit Kit in the den. It’s more than just a product; it’s a celebration of how far we’ve come and the incredible journey we’ve shared as a family and community.
